Activity Record Sheet

Every quarter, Peace Corps volunteers are required to submit a Volunteer Report Form (VRF) which details the activities of that volunteer in their community.  I would often struggle with remembering the intricacies of activities, who I worked with, and where we staged it.  Discussions with many volunteers made it apparent that I wasn’t alone – detailing activities weeks after they were implemented was always a difficult task.  I also knew that due to the fact that many placements did not have ready access to electricity, keeping digital records was impractical.  When designing a solution to the problem, a low-tech approach won the day.  I developed 4 activities record logs tailored to the 4 specific projects being implemented in Zambia.  This activity record tool was designed to be 3-hole punched and kept in a 3-ring binder, and would allow volunteers to record individual activities, including their metrics and evaluation data.  The tool proved to be a resounding success – every volunteer in-country received a logbook with these record tools and used them to provide valuable data to the United States Peace Corps on the impact of their activities.
