Camp Director at Roundup River Ranch
Roundup River Ranch is a non-profit year-round camp program serving children with chronic and life-threatening medical conditions. From March 2011 to October 2012 I served as Camp Director of the Roundup River Ranch program. Roundup River Ranch is a SeriousFun Camp (formerly Hole in the Wall Camps), a family of nonprofit programs around the world, founded by Paul Newman, and serving children with medical conditions. Prior to my Camp Director role at Roundup, I had worked over 7 years at 5 separate SeriousFun Camps in American and Ireland.
Roundup River Ranch provides a camp experience to children who would otherwise never have the opportunity due to their medical needs. The camp, offered free-of-charge to all participants, provides specially-designed programming for children living with a serious illness, and their family, all while supported by a full-time, on-site medical team.
In my role as Camp Director, I managed the budgeting, facility management, risk mitigation, and compliance of an 83-acre site and $10 million facility including the recruitment, training, and support of 300+ staff and volunteers. I lived on-site and oversaw all programming operations. Also in my role, I was responsible for working closely with our board in supporting development efforts, including the cultivation and stewardship of donor relationships and community partnerships. I worked closely with medical partners in the recruitment of campers and in organizing the support those campers needed to succeed at camp, both physically and psychosocially. During my time, I also negotiated the construction of a $75K high ropes alpine tower that could support campers with significant medical and mobility needs, and which provided campers a thrilling launch down a 200ft zip line.
It also happened to be incredibly fun.
